What is cystic acne?

Cystic acne is a colloquial term that does not appear in expert, medical or scientific nomenclature. It indicates dermatosis characterized by small lumps filled with sebum. So-called cystic acne is one of the most common types of skin diseases.

Cystic acne is considered a dermatosis of medium intensity, a stronger form of comedo. However, it is more difficult to cure. Typical subcutaneous acne leaves no scars in the absence of purulent lesions. However, if cysts filled with pus appear on the face under the skin, there is an increased risk of unsightly scars, which can be smoothed out by chemical peeling, for example. Treat face acne with suitable profi cosmetics.

How does cystic acne look like?

Cystic acne manifests itself in a very characterized way, so it is difficult to confuse it with another dermatosis. It is assumed, that subcutaneous spots are most often formed in the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin), similar to common acne and blackheads. You may also find acne on your back, neckline, or temples.

Excess of sebum produced in combination with accumulated callused skin and everyday dirt (sweat, tears, residues of cosmetics, makeup, pollen in the environment) is an indirect reason for the creation of cystic acne. The direct cause of its creation is that due to the deposition of impurities under the skin surface, the sebaceous glands become encapsulated, increase the volume of cells or simply accumulate solids under the skin. The result is subcutaneous acne on the forehead or other parts of the body. Other causes of cystic acne can be:

  • Inappropriately chosen cosmetics
  • increased sebum production
  • unprofessionally squeezed acne
  • taking certain types of medicine
  • hormonal changes
  • mental state

You should definitely not squeeze the pimples, as they leave permanent dark scars. If cystic acne shows on your face or acne on your forehead or back, give it some time. Some pimples are absorbed after a few days others appear on the surface so you can remove them easily.

In the case of subcutaneous pimples, which are the signs of acne, proper care is important, mainly thorough cleansing of the facial complexion and regular exfoliation of the skin, which was affected by subcutaneous acne. The next step is the application of dermocosmetics. If you suffer from cystic acne for a long time, a chemical peeling treatment is a suitable method. It does not leave any traces behind.

If it is about cystic acne on the face caused by a viral infection, pharmacological treatment is necessary, before which a professional diagnosis must be made of course. Apart from the prescribed medicine, the doctor may also recommend the use of preparations for people with atopic dermatitis, which eliminates such skin lesions quickly. If you have cystic acne on your back or face during your menstrual cycle, your doctor may prescribe you contraception that mitigates cystic acne.
